I attended my first author event in November 2024 and had so much fun I made this new activity a huge part of 2025. Beginning in May, I took part in seven author events and two flea markets, including:
- The Brighton District Library Local Author Showcase in April and October
- The 2 Dandelion’s Book Shop Author’s Alley in June
- The Michigan Authors Showcase the Buy Michigan Now Festival in August
- Westland Library Local Author Fair in November
- Troy Local Author Fair – also in November
- Rochester Hills Public Library – in November
- and the Garden City Lucky Squirrel Flea Market in May and September
Sure, I sell a few books at these events, but what I really enjoy is meeting widows and widowers who want to share their personal grief journeys with me. Some have lost their loved one recently, others decades ago, but they all seem to relish having a few moments to discuss their person, their lives together, and their grief.
I know I’m often moved to tears, but always come away happy that I’ve had a chance to meet each and every one of them.
We all agree that our society wants the grieving widow and widower to move on quickly, and it’s a privilege to find kindred spirits who understand the need to keep the memories alive and take as much time as necessary to process grief .
My thanks to the many people I’ve had the opportunity to spend those few minutes with together this year. I look forward to a new year and connecting with more readers at future events.
